The extension of Newark on the land to the south of the town provides the opportunity to improve the local transport system for all modes of travel.
The current planning application would help deliver a new link road between the A1 and dualled A46 south of Newark. The new connection has widespread support and will help to ease congestion in and around the town.
The new development will also require improvements to Newark’s public transport. This will include improved bus links to the town centre and to Newark’s railway stations. Cyclists and pedestrians will benefit from attractive and safe routes around the new development and links to the wider area.
Funding for the dualling of the A46 was brought forward in 2009 as a direct consequence of Newark & Sherwood’s Growth Point status. |
